You Gotta See These Kids!

On our program Hip Deep in Mali: Growing Into Music in 21st  Century Bamako, listeners meet three extraordinarily talented children, young griots learning music in a challenging environment. But with kids this remarkable, seeing is believing. So here are two short videos.

First, Daniel Dembelé (10 years old) and Waly Coulibaly (7 years old) in a balafon duo at the home of percussionist and educator Adama Diarra in Bamako.

And then, Ami Diabaté (12 years old) singing the song “Titati” with her father Lassi Diabaté on lead guitar, and Sidi Kouyaté on second guitar.

Both clips filmed and recorded by the Afropop team in Bamako, Mali, in February 2016.
