You Gotta See These Kids!
On our program Hip Deep in Mali: Growing Into Music in 21st  Century Bamako, listeners meet three extraordinarily talented children, young griots learning music in a challenging environment. But with kids this remarkable, seeing is believing. So here are two short videos. First, Daniel Dembelé (10 years old) and Waly Coulibaly (7 years old) in a balafon duo at the home of percussionist and educator Adama Diarra in Bamako. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JcNsrUOuYc And then, Ami Diabaté (12 years old) singing the song “Titati” with her father Lassi Diabaté on lead guitar, and Sidi Kouyaté on second guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABHZhvhwxaI Both clips filmed and recorded by the Afropop team in Bamako, Mali, in February 2016.
