The Occidental Brothers’ blend of high-energy soukous, rootsy Ghanaian Highlife, and African Jazz conjures the sound of the golden age of the African guitar. Founded in Chicago by American-born musicians, the group features collaborations with Ghanaian superstars the Western Diamonds, members of TPOK Jazz, and the Congolese legend Samba Mapangala.

The group is led by guitarist Nathaniel Braddock who also performs with Air Congo, Plutonians, Trio Mokili, and as a solo fingerstyle guitarist. Braddock has collaborated with musicians from all over Africa, and performs regularly in West Africa. The group was co-founded with alto saxophonist Greg Ward, who has released several highly acclaimed jazz albums on Greenleaf Music. Chicago stalwarts Joshua Ramos (bass) and Greg Artry (drums) complete the quartet for this Snug Harbor residency and performance. The Occidental Brothers are in town in collaboration with Delirious Dances for a residency at Snug Harbor to continue development on 3 Rites: Happiness.
