Sauti Za Busara 2004

This program features selections and interviews from the first edition of the Sauti Za Busara festival in Stonetown, Zanzibar, Tanzania in February 2004. Sauti Za Busara means "Sounds of Wisdom," and the festival's goal is to highlight music from Swahili East Africa. There is also an emphasis on women-led acts and everything is 100% live. The festival has gone on to great success over the following 20 years, and grown significantly. This program goes back to the beginning, when it was held outside the Old Stone Fort in the Forodhani Gardens, right by the sea. The program features varieties of Taarab music, Sufi music, Maasai hip-hop and more. Produced in 2004 by Banning Eyre and Sean Barlow.
