Coming on 200 days since the last New York show, we’re all missing the thrill of the low lights, high-priced drinks and watching the best of the world doing their things on the stage. Well, it may not be a perfect substitute, but if what you miss is improvisational flourishes and adventurous reimaginings, our friend Bombino is here to the rescue, in the form of a live album.
To celebrate the announcement (and no doubt entice you), the label has released a video of the band playing “Azamane Tiliade,” a track from Bombino’s 2013 full-length album, Nomad.
On Nov. 27, the Niger-born Tuareg guitarist will release his first-ever live album as a solo artist, Live in Amsterdam, on Partisan Records. Recorded last November while Bombino was touring in support of his album Deran, features him playing with an expanded lineup that includes his cousins on vocals, and the final performance of Bombino’s long-time rhythm guitarist Illias Mohamed Alhassane, who died suddenly in September.
The release date coincides with “Record Store Day Black Friday,” so if you’re looking for gift ideas— for, I don’t know, your favorite music blogger, maybe?—Bombino is here for you.
