Mr Eazi and Tega Starr Team Up on Master KG-Produced “French Kiss”

Coming out in the year of “WAP,” we have a downright wholesome song to share, from Nigeria’s Mr Eazi and Tega Starr: "French Kiss," produced by the man of the hour, South Africa’s Master KG and Nigeria’s Magic Sticks.

Tega Starr is an alum of Mr Eazi’s emPawa talent incubator, one of 30 artists who came up as part of its second round. It’s his first single and his voice slots in nicely with Eazi’s, and what little dancing he gets to demonstrate in the video, he knocks out of the park—another dual threat in the making—from the continent’s most populous country.

At this point, hearing any pop that deviates from America’s on-going love affair with the trap beat catches the ear, but Master KG and Magic Sticks’ production here is really soft and open, nodding to prevailing trends, but carving out its own space.

And since “our own space” is also sort of where we’re all trapped for the moment, Tega Starr dedicated the song “to everyone who could not see their loved ones during the lockdown.”
