The sounds of Afro-Lisbon are alive and well in the hands of Nídia. Coming out this month on Príncipe Discos, the Afro-Portuguese producer and DJ is releasing her follow up to her 2017 full-length debut Nídia é Má, Nídia é Fudida. The new album, titled Não Fales Nela Que A Mentes, gets a digital release Friday, May 22, with LPs and the associated 7-inch shipping shortly thereafter.

Her mother is from Guinea-Bissau and her father from Cape Verde, but Nídia's sound draws on the whole Afro-Lusophone world—kizomba, funaná and of course Angolan kuduro—as well as techno from Europe and South Africa and American pop and R&B. She is known for incorporating softer, “nonobvious musical textures” to the frenetic batida sounds driving her music, something you can hear in “Capacidades,” which flirts with an almost accordion sound, but not one that you'll confuse with funana.a
